Description	Hypocrisy never goes out of fashion. Neither does a little controversy,and Tartuffe, Moliere’s famous comedy, proves as scandalous today as it waswhen the Catholic Church first saw fit to ban it over 300 years ago. InTartuffe, the title character, as wicked as he is cavalier, masquerades as aman of God and casts his sinister spell over an innocent family. In RichardWilbur’s lauded translation, the trickery, twists and turns that overwhelmgullible Ogden, test his shrewd wife, torment his lovelorn daughter andfrustrate his son, translate into an uproarious delight for audiences. Fabrefactionpresents an evening with the French aristocracy, so style and indiscretion (andelaborate hair-do’s) are presumed and encouraged, both on stage and off.
